Canada
Very high demand: Express Entry, study permits, family sponsorship and visitor visas.
Pathways
Express Entry
Immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker through the Express Entry points system (CRS score).

The costly pitfalls
- Never pay for a fake job offer/LMIA: since spring 2025, IRCC removed the CRS points for arranged employment, so buying an LMIA is now useless AND fraudulent.
- Do not start the credential assessment (ECA via WES) too late: transcripts must be sent directly by the Cameroonian university, and authentication/mailing delays often exceed 3 to 6 months.
- Do not overestimate your score: a single Cameroonian applicant with no Canadian experience rarely exceeds 470 CRS, and the profile is valid for only 12 months in the pool before it expires.
Insider tips
- Leverage the French-language category: with NCLC 7+ on the TEF or TCF Canada, francophone draws select at much lower CRS scores (often 379 to 470) — this is the prime route for a Cameroonian.
- Take BOTH tests: TEF/TCF Canada (French) AND IELTS General or CELPIP (English); bilingualism yields up to 50 extra CRS points.
- Complete the ECA (WES) and the language test BEFORE creating your Express Entry profile: these two documents drive the score and take the longest.
Study permit
Study in Canada with a study permit: acceptance letter from a DLI and proof of funds (GIC).
6 docs 2026-07-15
The costly pitfalls
- Never submit a fraudulent Letter of Acceptance (LOA): since late 2023, IRCC verifies every LOA directly with the DLI (designated learning institution); a fake letter triggers a 5-year inadmissibility ban.
- Do not use the old funds threshold: the living-cost proof rose from 10,000 to over 20,000 CAD (about CAD 20,635 for one person, outside Quebec, updated every January 1), ON TOP of tuition and travel.
- Do not forget the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL): mandatory since January 2024 for most permits; without it, the application is returned unprocessed.
Insider tips
- Open a GIC of at least about CAD 20,635 with a Canadian bank (Scotiabank, ICICI, CIBC): it proves first-year living funds and is released gradually once you arrive.
- Prepay the first year of tuition: a payment receipt strongly reinforces the financial section and the credibility of the file.
- Choose a program consistent with your background: an unjustified career shift (e.g. engineer to hotel management) triggers refusal for questionable intent.
Family sponsorship
Be sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (spouse, common-law partner, child, parent) to obtain permanent residence.
5 docs 2026-08-06
The costly pitfalls
- Never file with a customary or religious marriage not transcribed into the Cameroonian civil registry: IRCC requires a marriage valid under both Cameroonian AND Canadian law, and a missing or inconsistent certificate stalls the file for months.
- Do not underestimate the marriage-of-convenience suspicion, scrutinized first on African files: contradictory accounts in the IMM 5532 questionnaire or at interview doom the application, and a relationship deemed arranged brings a 5-year ban.
- Do not pay anyone who 'guarantees' parent or grandparent sponsorship: new PGP intakes have been suspended since January 1, 2026 and only files invited in 2025 are moving — the only open route is the super visa.
Insider tips
- NO minimum income is required to sponsor a spouse or child: beware of 'advisers' demanding proof of millions — the 3-year income threshold only applies to parents and grandparents.
- Plan the police certificate early: it can ONLY be obtained from within Cameroon (the Judicial Police in Yaounde, not embassies), start it early and keep it recent, plus one certificate per country of residence of 6 months or more since age 18.
- Document the relationship continuously starting today: dated photos (dowry, wedding, visits), conversations spread over time, MTN MoMo/Western Union receipts and the sponsor's passport stamps beat 300 pages printed the night before filing.
Visitor visa (tourism and business)
Visit Canada for up to 6 months — tourism, family or business trip — on a temporary resident visa.

The costly pitfalls
- Do not apply with weak ties: doubt over your return (section 179(b) IRPR) is the No. 1 refusal ground for Cameroonians — without a stable job, family staying behind or assets, the application is almost lost in advance.
- Never inflate the bank account at the last minute: unexplained sudden deposits signal borrowed funds, and forged statements bring a 5-year misrepresentation ban.
- Never buy an 'invitation letter' or a 'guaranteed' visa sold in Douala or Yaounde: an invitation guarantees NOTHING, only RCIC consultants (register at college-ic.ca) and lawyers may represent you, and a forged document follows you for life.
Insider tips
- Budget precisely: CAD 100 fee (capped at CAD 500 per family) + CAD 85 biometrics (about 82,000 FCFA per adult), and plan around CAD 2,000 (~900,000 FCFA) in funds per month of stay or written support from your host.
- The same TRV covers business trips: for a meeting, trade show or negotiation, attach the Canadian company's letter AND a letter from your Cameroonian employer — there is no separate 'business visa' to chase.
- Biometrics are valid 10 years: if you already gave them for a Canadian application, check their status on canada.ca — you save CAD 85 and the trip to Yaounde, the country's ONLY centre (nothing in Douala).
